poetry

the sea at night

the sea at night sounds like thunder
crashing and thrashing and making a blunder
throwing ships front and back
pushing them onto rocks with a smack
rain and wind stir it around
while thunder and lightning flash and roar like a hound

the wind and water makes sailors go insane
as if poseidon himself is playing a game
captains and crew men try to contain the beast
but the water swallows them up like a christmas feast
the water twists and tangles fishing boats nets
the fishermen are only happy during day until the sun sets

the fishes will never take the bait
tankers and barges will meet their fate
light houses will have to be working
or else cliffs won't have to be lurking
ships will sink without a trace
the sea at night is a dangerous place

the sea monster

it's great arms lash at the coast
the tremendous body twists, gurgles and shouts
a tail whips and tangles
claws of lightning
a voice of thunder
a spine of broken ships

waves of razor teeth
eyes of anger and strength
a mouth which swallows whole
no ears to hear the screams and shouts
no soul or sympathy live within

it has no love
it has no fear
nothing can beat it
it doesn't sneak up
it traps and sinks
and it rips boats apart
